Kennedy | 3 Months

It’s been a week and half since Kennedy turned 3 months old and every day I’m continually amazed at how much she is growing and changing.

It is obvious she is feeling 100 times better since having her lip & tongue ties released and her little personality is finally starting to show through. As much as it pains me to admit it, Kennedy is my mini-me. She is feisty, loud & she knows exactly what she wants, when she wants it and how she wants it. She’s particular in how she gets put to sleep, how she nurses & how she’s held.

Kennedy is also starting to coo and smile, although she’s yet to smile for the camera. She’s most likely to flash her toothless grin when she’s being talked to and when she is nursing. It’s my absolute favorite when she unlatches in the middle of a feeding simply to coo and smile at me before re-latching. It melts my heart every single time.

She also adores her brother. She watches Maverick all the time and if he isn’t in the room, she’s scanning the area for his voice. Maverick has been so sweet to her. He brings her toys, blankets & is always wanting to give her hugs & kisses. She’s trying so hard to roll over and reach for toys and I think it’s because she’s itching to be able to play with him.

Weight: 12 lbs. 12 oz.

Height: Unknown

Currently Wearing: 3 month clothes

Hair Color: Dark brown

Eye Color: Light brown

Likes: Sitting up, naps on Momma, being carried in her Tula, watching Maverick play, nursing & baths

Dislikes: The carseat, being left alone, naps in her crib, wet diapers & being too cold or too hot

Milestones: Bringing her hands to her mouth, cooing, smiling, trying to roll over, kicking her feet & tracking objects and/or people with her eyes

Favorite food(s): Momma’s milk

Sleeping: Inconsistently naps throughout the day if in the car or being held, goes to bed between 8-8:30 PM and wakes up at 1 AM, 4 AM, 5 AM and finally at 7 AM. In other words, not the best sleeper.

Favorite Mommy Moment: While nursing, she unlatches to coo and smile at me. Sometimes she will hold a 5-minute long “conversation” with me before re-latching to finish eating. It’s the best thing in the whole world.

Happy 3 months, Kennedy! Momma loves you xoxo

Pregnancy Update | 25 Weeks

This week marks my 25th week of pregnancy with Baby Brack #2! I don’t know what’s scarier — the fact that 25 weeks have already passed or that I only have 15 more weeks to go before I’m a mom of two kids, 2 years old & under!!

Either way, I’m getting excited for Baby Girl’s arrival. The nursery is painted, the crib is picked out and the chair & ottoman for her room got ordered last weekend (thanks, Mom)!

PS Ignore the bad selfie, I’m working on getting a camera tripod, but the high-chair & my iPhone are my best options for the time being 🙂

How far along: 25 weeks + 1 day

Size of baby: About the size of a head of cauliflower

Weight gain: More like weight loss! I’ve actually lost weight this pregnancy and while the doctor is slightly concerned, I’m not. I tried explaining that I went from a desk job to being a full-time toddler wrangler (AKA stay-at-home mom) and that’s probably why I’m not packing on the pounds. But she wants to see some increase on the scale at my next visit, so I’m doing my best to indulge in all things cookies, ice cream & chocolate.

Pregnancy symptoms: During Maverick’s pregnancy, I had heartburn from the first trimester up until he was born. Like the Old Wive’s tale says, he was born with a FULL head of hair. Fortunately with Baby Girl I hadn’t had any heartburn until this week and it’s back with a vengeance. It usually starts between 8:30-9 PM and it’s so bad that if I lay down, I feel like I might vomit. I told Shawn that she better come out with a full ponytail because this is vicious.

Other than that, I’ve had some minor cramping, but nothing concerning. It’s likely because I’m not a good pregnant person and insist on doing the same things I would do while not pregnant (i.e., stand on a 6-foot ladder to help paint our master bedroom).

Kick Count: Minor movements during the day, but she’s super active in the evenings & at night. Shawn & my Mom have felt her move and she’s kicked Maverick a few times while I was rocking him to sleep, but he didn’t seem to notice.

Food cravings/aversions: I crave all things sweet, especially cookie dough & ice cream and still have quite an aversion to chicken. Yuck!

Overall, I’m feeling pretty good. I’m starting to get the lower back pain and I did have 1 or 2 Braxton Hicks contractions a few weeks ago, but it really has been an easy 25 weeks. Let’s hope the next 15 weeks are smooth sailing too!

Nursery Inspiration

Baby Brack #2 is due to make her arrival in early February 2017, but with the holidays quickly approaching, we are trying to get a jumpstart on the nursery before the calendar gets hectic. Our plan is to start painting this weekend and then over the next few months slowly acquire the furniture & decor.

Here’s what I’m dreaming up for our little princess:

Room color: As much as I love the color pink, I wasn’t thrilled about the idea of painting her room that color (and I think Shawn was relieved), so we found the perfect shade of light purple–Violet Cache from the HGTV Collection by Sherwin-Williams.

Dresser & Crib: We are purchasing the exact same dresser & crib set that Maverick currently has. While I wish Maverick was out of his crib, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen any time soon, so moving it into the baby’s room isn’t an option. Our plan is to eventually get the toddler rail for Maverick’s crib and then when Baby #2 is ready, we’ll move the rail we already have to her bed and Maverick’s bed can either become a day bed or a full-size bed. Plus, both kids will then have dressers they can grow up with.

Crib bedding: I searched forever and finally found crib bedding that I like. I wanted her room to be simple, yet sophisticated and I love the damask print, so it was a perfect fit. Plus, it matches the paint color exactly!

Lamp: When I was registering I stumbled across this cute little lamp and couldn’t resist. I love having a small light in the kid’s rooms for late night feedings or 3 AM diaper changes. It gives me enough brightness to see what I’m doing, but doesn’t wake them up as much as the overhead light does.

Monogram: Maverick has his name spelled out above his crib. I painted & decorated the letters and they are adorable, but were an absolute nightmare to hang up. I knew Shawn would kill me if I had him hang another name on the wall, so I found this adorable monogram that can be personalized with her initials. I think it would be perfect above her crib and way easier for Dad to hang.

Artwork: One of my favorite sayings is, “Let her sleep for when she wakes she will move mountains.” It embodies so much of what I want for my daughter, so I was super excited when I found it here–and in purple!

Glider: No nursery is complete without a comfortable glider & ottoman. For Maverick, we reused an old rocker that my mom sewed new cushions for and he still loves it! I didn’t want to take it away from him, plus it would be a tight squeeze for 2 kids during our nightly story time, so I’m hoping to find something a little bigger for Baby #2’s room. Plus, I figured if we get it in gray we can move it to other parts of the house once the kiddos outgrow it.

I can’t wait to get started on the decorating! Wish us luck on our painting this weekend!
